How to write your own Google logo
The sport blogger and social media star who was the face of the brand’s official logo for nearly three years was forced to step down in May after allegations of sexual misconduct and sexual harassment surfaced.
In a statement to Yahoo Sports, Jennifer Weiner said the company “will be working closely with Ms. Weiner to address her concerns, and we are confident that she will be fully exonerated.”
The Associated Press first reported Weiner’s resignation on Monday.
The AP also identified the woman as the subject of a lawsuit by a former client of Weiner’s that alleges she was assaulted by the former fashion editor and that he sexually harassed her.
“Jennifer Weiner was a talented, talented woman who was loved by many people,” Weiner’s publicist said in a statement.
“She has worked tirelessly to be the best person she could be and this is not an easy decision to make.
But I have decided that I cannot continue to be a part of a company that does not support my integrity or my principles.”
Weiner had been the face and voice of Google’s logo since 2015.
Her departure came as Google was embroiled in an ethics investigation into whether the company was inappropriately working with women in the workplace.
Google has faced questions over its relationships with women and sexual misconduct allegations, particularly after the revelation of a former Google engineer’s story of sexual harassment at the company.
A Google spokeswoman declined to comment on Weiner’s departure.
Weiner previously said she had worked at Google for over six years and that she was a fan of the company and its product.
She has been an outspoken advocate for women in technology, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly and appearing on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”
She also helped design Google’s new search product, and in March, the company said it would end a paid internship program with the National Women’s Law Center.
Weiner also was the subject for a lawsuit filed by former clients of her.
The suit alleges that the former client was subjected to repeated and unwanted sexual advances and groping by Weiner.
In January, the court filing stated that the sexual harassment claims were false.
“This lawsuit was brought by the complainant in violation of California law and a federal court order prohibiting a person from retaliating against a person who files a complaint,” it stated.
In the lawsuit, the woman’s attorney, Gloria Allred, accused Weiner of “engaging in a pattern of behavior that resulted in Ms. [the plaintiff’s] unwanted, sexual advances, groping, and sexual humiliation.”
Weiner resigned as Google’s chief operating officer in April, saying she was stepping down from her role after she was fired.
“As a result of these accusations, I am stepping down as Google chief operating person,” Weiner said in the statement.
Weiner has been outspoken in her support for women’s rights and diversity issues in the tech industry, including her support of an initiative that aims to increase representation of women in leadership positions in tech companies.
The company has faced criticism for its handling of sexual assault allegations against several top executives and other top executives have also been accused of sexual discrimination.
Google is currently in the midst of a review into whether its culture supports its employees.
